Hi friends! As promised, we have the details regarding the Meet N Greet this Sunday, April 19th.

Meet us in the courtyard at Refuge this Sunday for an update on our family's move. We would love to meet you and your friends, family and whoever else is interested on our family's exciting new venture. We will be providing the hamburgers/hot dogs and would love for you to bring a side dish to share.

THIS SUNDAY-April 19th
*Bounce house for the kids!
We can't wait to meet you!

Quick Update:
I wanted to ask on this day that you pray for a special family that's close to my heart today. Chris and Karen Lundblad lost their daughter (my best friend) Heidi in a car accident two years ago on this day. The family and friends close to Heidi still mourn our loss. We ask that you remember Chris, Karen, Dana and Michelle Lundblad in your prayers today. Thank you.

Ferguson Four!: Come one, come all. Invite your friends and bring a side dish!

Calvary International Fellowship: Prayer Update..

clock April 11, 2009 21:36 by author bryonmondok

image Dear Friends,

Thank you for praying for the work of God here in Kenya.

Many have been praying for our friend and fellow missionary Ernie Hopper. God has heard. Ernie is out of the hospital and the official diagnosis is a serious bout of hepatitis. Kelli probably can explain it better, but I guess untreated hepatitis produces proteins that break loose and clog arteries and basically cause a stroke. He needs some serious rest time (missionaries are notoriously bad at this) in front of him as well as physical therapy. Thank you for praying for Ernie and his family, please continue.

Thank you for praying for the Meru mission. Jackson and I traveled with Baba Peterson to distribute Talking Bibles and spend time learning about the people of Tharaka. I believe God really blessed our time and used us, but I also think He gave vision for a church plant into that area for the not too distant future. Please continue to pray for that arid area and for the future church plant. There are some photos and videos on the blog.

Thank you for praying for Haley and her transition to America. She has been offered and accepted to University of California at Santa Barbara’s international studies program. If you do not know exactly what international studies is, think of a political science degree that prepares you to be Condi Rice. Haley has less than two months left as a missionary in Africa before she heads Stateside to for a job in Alaska for the summer and begins studies (and surfing) in the fall. Thank you for praying, we wanted to share the good news of this milestone you prayed for.

Finally, please be in prayer as we hope to finish the main construction of the children’s ministry building within the next weeks and then move the church into it.

Shalom!

Ed

Calvary International Fellowship: Let me boast in my daughter..

clock April 11, 2009 21:33 by author bryonmondok

imageIt is official, Haley will be attending University of California at Santa Barbara in the fall! Yea! Yea! Yea! Go Gauchos --whatever that is...

Needless to say, we are very proud of our daughter and recognize the options she had for university is because she wisely used the gifts and talents God gave her. I love being a dad and I love being the father of Haley.

Thursday evening two other proud missionary fathers and I arranged a surprise dinner with our wonderful daughters who have been friends since freshmen year. I think the three girls were so surprised they did not know what to say. I think the dads were on the edge of tears as they celebrated the milestone of our daughters about to graduate and choices for university are made.

Calvary International Fellowship: Let me boast about my son..

clock April 11, 2009 21:30 by author bryonmondok

Can I just say I love being a dad. I'll add that I love being the father of Jackson.

Jackson and I accompanied a friend to the Tharaka area of Meru to distribute Talking Bibles and see his home area. Julius Mwangi Mati (better known as Baba Peterson) has been asking for is to visit his people for more than two years. It is a very arid region where bags of USAID relief food help people survive. For as difficult as the region is, our greatest concern is that people are passing into eternity without Jesus Christ. It is our hope that Calvary International Fellowship can be used of God to help a Meru man plant a church into that area in the near future. So we not only felt putting Talking Bibles into the hands of several people was important for the immediate ministry to the area, but it is sowing God's word for the future church plant.

As a missionary and pastor there it was an incredible experience to get to know the people and area one of the key people in Calvary International Fellowship comes from. To spend the time living as and walking as a Meru from Tharaka gave me an incredible view into their lives. Mostly it gave compassion for Julius, Esther, Peterson and Alan from CIF and the people they come from.

As a father, there is only one thing greater than experiencing a wonderful adventure with you son; it is when that adventure is part of God's mission to draw people to Himself. It was an honor to walk for miles carrying Talking Bibles in the heat and then collapsing at night onto the floor to sleep next to my snoring son. It was an honor to serve alongside Jackson and witness God working in him.

Sorry, the pictures below do not have images and video of Jackson, but he was the photographer.

After giving a brief explanation of the importance of God's word and how to use the Talking Bible we encouraged people in the village to form listening groups. We explained that God's word has now come to them in a way that they can hear it themselves and that it is so important that that they should share it with others.

Calvary International Fellowship: From Kelli's Turkana Trip..

clock April 2, 2009 10:59 by author bryonmondok

imageBelow is an excerpt from the the Winterhaven, Florida, News Chief about a doctor that took part in the Turkana medical outreach with Kelli.

For a chiropractor, aligning necks and backs in Florida rarely is associated with the word "miracle." In the back roads of Kenya, where electricity is all but nonexistent and medical problems are rampant, it's sometimes the only word that applies.  Click here to continue...

Calvary International Fellowship: Coming to a town near you..

clock March 30, 2009 09:24 by author bryonmondok

2009 NA Tour

It is almost that time again. Furlough is coming. This will be a another of our famous "whirlough" furloughs. By that I mean we'll only be Stateside for about eight weeks and our schedule is packed. These "whirloughs" every three years has kept us from having to take the traditional six or eight month furlough, but we'll probably need a longer furlough in 2012 when Jackson graduates anyway.

We would like to meet up with as many prayer and financial supporters as possible so we thank God that churches, Bible studies and others booked the dates as soon as they heard. Our greatest desire is to be like Paul as he thanked the church in Philippi for their partnership in the work and to share all God is doing through the prayer and support.

Below is the tentative schedule, but please remember it is a living and changing document. We will try to keep it updated as much as possible.

Calvary International Fellowship: Listen here..

clock March 30, 2009 09:14 by author bryonmondok

image Though I'm claiming a great love for God and His word, I can not make a claim to be a great preacher. So I may be shooting myself in the foot with this post. As the Calvary Intentional website is being reworked it will soon include the ability to listen to and download messages from our mid-week and Sunday services. These are in English, but hopefully we'll be able to begin posting messages in Kiswahili and tribal vernaculars from some of the guys as they mature. Anyway, here are couple messages, if you are interested, from what we have been able to get onto the server so far. Hopefully you'll be edified. Please enjoy, please feel connected to CIF. By the way, we have since learned how to compress the message file size a little more...

Ferguson Four!: Singing and Dancing, Kenya Style

clock March 25, 2009 20:36 by author bryonmondok

One of Jonathan and my memories of Kenya is how much song and dance is important to the culture. We wanted to give you an idea of the spirit of Kenya and fall in love with the people and culture as we have. We found this video on youtube and thought it captured the spirit of the Kenyan people. Hope you enjoy the video!

Calvary International Fellowship: Prayer Update

clock March 24, 2009 17:15 by author bryonmondok

imageWe have been asking you to pray for Calvary International Fellowship’s building project and God is continuing to bless. Please do not stop!

Please pray thanksgiving for the revitalization of prayer within CIF. I was comfortable and blessed as people gathered for our weekly prayer and praise meeting on Friday evenings. It was good and there was not reason to complain, but God wanted to do something exceedingly abundantly more than I thought! Last year one of the ladies had a burden to have an intercessory prayer meeting early Sunday mornings before church began. Since that time a group of ladies often arrive at CIF before the light to pray for the service and all that God is going to do. In the last weeks the worship and praise team has been struggling, so they have begun meeting for prayer EVERY MORNING at 6:45am to pray for each other and their role in the church. Praise God!

Please pray that God would call the people of Githurai to Himself in a powerful way. Please pray that He would empower us by His Spirit to share His love and grace with these hurting people. Please pray that there would be a great harvest among the lost and that they would then proclaim the praises of Him that called them out of darkness and into His marvelous light.

Finally, please thank God and pray for Bryon, a friend of ours, that is spending many hours redesigning the CIF webpage.
