Men’s Retreat
We did our semester men’s retreat in Canta, Peru. Canta is about three hours northeast of Lima. It was quite a drive straight up to an elevation of 8,600 feet above sea level. Our ears popped the entire way. It was actually a little difficult to breath the first day and it was freezing! Their winter is Lima’s Summer and viceversa. That’s amazing! However, the views were absolutely unbelievable. We had a great time of sharing in the Word together, eating strange food and taking in some awesome sites.

On our way back; we passed through the tiny village of Canta and there were several ladies on horseback who were taking turns at galloping under a chicken that was tied upside down by it’s feet to a wire and trying to pull it’s head off. I’m still trying to figure out what we witnessed!

The Boys
The boys are doing well. They are growing up so fast that I wish that I could just push the “pause” button. They are very involved in the their school and the church youth group. As a matter of fact, they just returned from their High School Retreat where they helped with worship. We are so proud of them. The Lord has blessed them both with the gift of music. I could just sit and listen to them play together all day. Of course, they play the “new” stuff while everything that dear old dad plays is “old school!”

Surf Camp
There is so much going on around campus this month. It started with a mission team from CC San Diego coming down to help the church with their annual Surf Camp. There were over 300 youth involved in two separate camps for junior and senior high. The last day of camp, they had baptisms scheduled but had to evacuate because of the earthquake in Chile. The water had completely receded and it was thought to be the beginnings of a tsunami. The picture shows just how far out the water went. By the Lord’s mercies, the tsunami never came. The crazy thing is that the water is still very low around the beaches. It went somewhere and they say it’s not coming back. Needless to say, the surfers are bummed!

My Favorite Thing
I am certainly getting to teach to my heart’s content. I usually do morning devotions with the students twice a week and then also teach the evening service at CC Lima. I am also currently wrapping up a book study on Revelation and then will begin another study on the book of Genesis. If you’d like to keep up with these studies, I’m in the process of posting them on my website at www.dwaynespearman.org.

CC San Diego

clock January 14, 2010 00:47 by author bryonmondok

Here is our team from Calvary Chapel San Diego. Great group! With their help, we are getting a lot of things done around the campus.

We have two mission teams on campus going several different directions. There are two groups from Calvary Chapel San Diego. One of them just spent several days in Cajamarca where they ministered with Pastor Diego. They are back now and will be helping us do some repairs, upgrades, etc... around campus through next Friday to help us get ready for our upcoming Spring semester. The other group came in last night and they will be heading up to Ventanilla to minister with Pastor Raul. Great group of people.

The second team just came in about 15 minutes ago from First Baptist Church of Bossier City, La. I've only known them about 15 minutes, but they already look like a great group.
It's 2:30am here and time for Dwayne to get some rest!

The Spearman Family: December Newsletter

Christmas

I must admit that it was a little different for us. We really missed caroling, Christmas plays, cantatas and everything that we have grown accustomed to seeing this time of year. Of course, after being in the “center of the storm”, so to speak, as a senior pastor, everything is a little slower. However, we did have a good time with our new family and friends here in Peru. We had a special Christmas Eve service and I was asked to share. I spoke from Luke 2 and shared how that just as there was no room at the inn for Jesus then, many tell him that there is no room for him in their lives today. It was a good time with our church family here.

Christmas Crafts

Jannett also had a good time with the students and staff during the holiday. She got them all together and taught them how to make cookies to hang on the Christmas tree that we put up on campus. They had an awesome time. Almost everything on the tree is handmade. I.e. popcorn strings, cookies, dolls, etc… It is real pretty and brought a lot of life to the campus through the holiday. The birds have gotten into the Christmas spirit as well by eating the popcorn strings right off the tree!

Language School

The boys and I will be returning to language school on January 6th to continue our studies in Spanish. Sometimes, the frustration levels are high, but we are learning a lot and are sometimes shocked at how much we can speak at times. I feel very strongly about learning the language of the people that we are trying to minister to and with.

Next Semester

The Spring Semester will be on us before we know it. Part of my responsibilities here on campus is registration and admissions. I’ve been talking to students from all over the world about coming to study with us. It really is beginning to look like it will be an excellent semester. The students will be studying Systematic Theology, Apologetics, Genesis, Revelation, Acts, Romans and Inductive Bible Study. We have visiting teachers coming from San Diego, CA. and Ecuador. I am really looking forward to getting back into the classroom as well.

The Boys

The boys are still very well. They just finished their first semester of school and are taking a much needed break before starting back up in January. One of the missionary families invited them to spend a few days with them at Kawai beach. They just got back yesterday and they apparently had a great time. Both of them are pretty sun burnt but no worse for the wear. They have also been asked to lead worship at an upcoming youth retreat in February. We are very proud of them.

We would love for you to keep in touch with us.

Prayers and Praises

clock November 19, 2009 01:42 by author bryonmondok

My family and I pray that this update finds each of you doing well. We’ve been in Peru now since August 11th and the time is just flying by so quickly. This semester will end in just three weeks. That is so hard to believe, but true. It will end with a graduation ceremony on December 4th. At that time all of the students will be heading home and then we’ll start getting the campus ready for the Spring Semester that will begin in February 3rd.

However, we will not have too much downtime during the break. We have a team of about forty coming in just after Christmas to help us do some pretty extensive repairs and upgrades around the campus. It seems like everything needs a tweak here or there. We also have a new family coming to help us out. They will be moving over from Ecuador the first week of January. We are really looking forward to having them. They are originally from California and have six boys, three of which are approximately Dane and Brandon’s age. We are looking forward to the fellowship.

I’ve just finished putting together the schedule for next semester. We'll be teaching Genesis, Revelation, Systematic Theology, Inductive Bible Study and Acts. Not sure which ones I'll be teaching yet, but most likely Genesis and Revelation. I also look forward to teaching a class in the Spanish program as well. I absolutely love teaching!
Continue to keep us in your prayers. Pray that the Lord will keep our support strong. We see so many missionaries that are discouraged about that. However, we are so blessed to have such faithful supporters. Again, thank you.

Also, pray that we will be able to sell our minivan. Right now a family in Andrews, Texas has it and is trying to sell it for us. It is really taking a toll on us financially. If you guys know anyone that is looking for one, please let me know.
Also, pray for Jannett. She has physically had a rough time since our arrival. She started out with a cold, then the flu and now she is having dizzy spells. I took her to the doctor this morning and they ran a few tests and we are supposed to find out tomorrow what the results are. Pray that the Lord will heal her body.

We would also like to thank the Lord for many answered prayers. We were all able to get our Religious Workers Visas. Now we do not have to leave the country every ninety days. I was also able to get my Peruvian drivers license. Many of you helped me pray about that. The boys and I have successfully completed our third month of language classes. We were also able to get some of our things brought down last week with a friend that flew in from Orlando, Florida.
In conclusion, we just want to thank all of you for the love and support that you continue to give us. You guys are the best and we love and appreciate all of you.

Spearman Family: October Newsletter

clock October 30, 2009 20:01 by author bryonmondok

Mission Teams
I have agreed to work with the Bible College to start up a missions program during the Summer very similar to the missions programs that I oversaw at Borderland in San Benito and First Baptist in Brownsville. We are going to use our existing program which is called Youth Summer of Missions as a way to get young people to come and serve as interns during the Summer to help with the teams. They will be trained in Miming, Facial Art, Drama, Evangelism, etc… We will be trusting the Lord to provide the teams to minister here at the Bible College and at our mission churches. Please pray about being a part of it. We would love to have you with us for a week during the Summer.

Men’s Retreat
I was able to take the guys of the Bible College on a Men’s Retreat at the beginning of the month. We went up to our orphanage which is about two hours away and spent a Friday and Saturday. During that time, we had three Bible studies on Master, Mission and Mate and the guys were able to fellowship and do some much needed work around the orphanage. It was an awesome time.

Language School
The boys and I are still very involved in our language classes. We go everyday from 3:30pm to 5:30pm. I’m amazed to see how much the boys are speaking and writing now. I don’t realize how much they have learned until I see them communicating with their friends in the youth group here at the church and online with Facebook. On October 29th we will be going into our third month of classes. Please keep us in prayer. Sometimes I feel like my head is going to explode!

Liberty University
The boys are also enrolled in Liberty Home Bible Institute. They just took their first midterm and did an excellent job. When they complete this two year program of study, they will be able to transfer up to forty-two hours into Liberty University. While Jannett takes care of the rest of their homeschooling, it is my responsibility to help them with these classes everyday for an hour. I really enjoy spending that time with them.

Teaching Schedule
I have had the opportunity to teach two classes thus far this semester: Matthew and 1 & 2 Peter. This week I will also be teaching 2 Peter to the Spanish students via a translator. The Lord has also blessed me with the opportunity to speak at the English church and several times at the Spanish church. The Lord knows how much I love to teach His Word and I thank Him for every opportunity that He gives it to me. I also just found out that I’ll be teaching Revelation and Genesis next semester. My two favorite books!
