Is missionary training important?

Ask those who have gone to the field without training. They’ll tell you they wish they’d taken the time to more fully prepare!

Read what these FIT alumni have to say.

“Everything you taught us has proven true. The time we spent in Tijuana… well, the value cannot be measured or expressed. Thank you for being true to God’s calling and also for caring for us.”
Roger and Kathy Chesebro,
Serving in Kenya

“We can’t thank you enough for putting on the training school. We could never overstate what an impact that has had on our ministry here in Oaxaca, our marriage and our family life. This training was exactly what we needed. God bless you and thank you so much for your support and guidance to us.”
Paul and Kelci Mattfeld,
Served in Oaxaca

Field-environment Intensive Training

Shepherd's Staff Missionary Training

  • Called to the nations to proclaim His name?
  • Confirmed in that calling by the leaders and members of your home church?
  • Confident that God will show His care through them and others as you step out in faith?

Conscious of the fact that you might make a greater impact for His kingdom with a bit more specific preparation for missions work then you’ve received thus far?

If so, then perhaps our Field-environment Intensive Training (FIT) might be a good choice as the final preparation step of your journey to the field He has called you to work in. This extreme and extensive course of preparation was designed specifically for those whom God has called to serve Him in the foreign mission field and will be departing for the field within a few months after completing our program. In a sense, this two and a half week time of preparation is for those “in the chute”, who have their home church leadership, along with friends and family behind them and the imminent departure for the field in front of them. If that’s you, then:

Shepherd's Staff Missionary Training

Consider the value of being equipped in the eight key areas that every serious missionary encounters once on the field, and thus should be prepared for:

  • Relational skills
  • Leadership skills
  • Administrative skills
  • Personal Health
  • Practical Ministry skills
  • Cross-cultural skills
  • Family relationships
  • Church relationships

Shepherd's Staff Missionary Training

Consider receiving this instruction from experienced, field-tested missionaries such as:

  • Pastor Jeff Jackson, former missionary and church planter in Cebu City, Philippines.
  • Pastor Trip Kimball, founding and former senior pastor of Calvary Chapel of Joshua Springs and who has recently returned from more than 15 years of service in the Philippines. Kimball founded and was the director of the Calvary Chapel Training Center in the Philippines. Kimball still plays an active role as director of Rainbow Village Ministries , also in the Philippines.
  • Pastor Jeff Fadness, current senior pastor of Calvary Chapel of Pocatello, Idaho, and former missionary-church planter for more than 12 years in the former Soviet Union.
And other missions minded and experienced pastors and teachers...and all of this in a "missions" environment...the greater Tijuana, Mexico, area, just minutes south of San Diego, California.

Consider having finished the classroom teaching just before lunch each day and then after lunch, experiencing firsthand a variety of actual ministries taking place in this busy metro area of almost 3 million people. Almost any type of ministry taking place in any developing nation around the world is taking place in this city. Observe, participate, ask questions, plot a strategy for your future ministry with the leaders of these ministries, many of which are missionaries, just like you’ll be.

Shepherd's Staff Missionary Training

Consider spending 3 full days and nights living with a Mexican family! The relationships you’ll build, the culture shock you’ll experience, the greater depth of intimacy and dependence on the Lord this week will produce will be unforgettable. This is an immersion experience that will be life changing, for you, your family, and the Mexican family you have lived with!
